Datastore Design

Datastore Design

Choices that only datastores raise: whether the datastore has a landing page, whether its items have pages, and where an item’s fields are defined.

A datastore holds items that share one set of fields, and it is the one content type whose behavior you configure yourself. The pages in this section cover the choices that only datastores raise: whether the datastore itself is a page (Datastore Landing Pages), whether its items have their own pages (Item Pages or Articles), and where an item's fields are defined (Datastore Fields and Template Fields).

Choices that apply to every kind of content are covered elsewhere. Content Types covers whether a datastore is the right home for the content at all, and whether to use one datastore or several. Defining Pages covers what a page is and what an entity gets when it is one. Reusing Content covers showing a datastore's items in more than one place. There is more than one valid answer to each question, so treat these pages as considerations and write your reasons down.
